Switching to CenStar Energy is Easy
In the late 1990s, competition and energy choice began in New York when the State restructured its utility industry. For example, generation plants produce electricity and sell it into the wholesale market via the New York Independent System Operator (NYISO). Utilities—having sold most of their generation plants—maintain the poles and wires, read the meters, provide outage and emergency service and default commodity service to customers who do not choose an alternate provider. Utility customers in New York are able to choose a competitive supplier, also known as an energy service company (ESCO).
Competition among ESCOs to supply electricity and gas was designed to provide a variety of benefits to customers, including:
- Energy savings
- Risk management
- Lower prices
- Dedicated customer service
- Innovative products and services
New York Utility Rates
Rate structures and rates vary by usage type (tariff class), utility and zone. New York State is divided into 11 congestion zones by the NYISO. CenStar Energy has been approved by the New York Department of Public Service and certified with five utilities. To switch to our services, your company must be located in one or more of the following service territories:
- Consolidated Edison Company of New York (ConEd)
- National Grid, formerly Niagara Mohawk Power Corporation (NIMO)
- New York State Electric & Gas Corporation (NYSEG)
- Orange & Rockland
- Rochester Gas & Electric Corp.
Switching Your Business
The first step in switching your business is for CenStar Energy to gather historical usage data from your utility. This data is necessary to analyze your energy consumption patterns and develop a proposal customized to the needs of your business.
One of our Energy Marketing Managers will discuss your preference for price structures and the degree of market risk you wish to take. Based on your pattern of energy usage and your tolerance for risk, we will propose a choice of pricing structures to meet your specific needs. We are extremely knowledgeable about the New York energy markets and about how businesses typically use energy.
After you have signed a CenStar Energy Sales Agreement stating the specific product, your price for gas and/or electric service and the duration of the agreement, the enrollment process is simple. Our operations team will work to provide a seamless transition from the utility or your current ESCO as your gas and/or electric accounts are transferred to our service.
